What is Empowering Indigenous Learners (EIL)?
Empowering Indigenous Learners (EIL) is a community-driven initiative dedicated to helping Indigenous learners pursue education by providing financial support, encouragement, and access to opportunities. Our mission is to remove barriers so more Indigenous people can achieve their educational goals and strengthen their communities.

Who can apply for these grants?
Applicants should: identify as First Nations, Inuit, or Métis; be between the ages of 23 and 35; plan to attend or continue post-secondary education, trades, apprenticeships, certification programs, or other recognized educational opportunities; and demonstrate financial need and a commitment to achieving their educational goals.

Do I need to be accepted into a school before applying?
No. You may still apply if you are planning to enroll. We ask that you provide confirmation of your intention to attend or apply when possible.

What are some examples of things people usually use these grants for?
Funding may be used toward educational expenses such as tuition and fees, books and supplies, technology and equipment, transportation, housing or living expenses while attending school, and other education-related costs.

How much funding can I receive?
Successful applicants may receive up to $5,000, depending on available funding and the selection committee's decision.

Are there specific groups of Indigenous people in Canada that these grants are for?
Yes, these grants are specifically for Indigenous Peoples of Turtle Island, which includes First Nations, Inuit, and Métis individuals.

What is required in the application?
Your application will require personal information, proof of Indigenous identity, details about your educational plans, and a statement demonstrating financial need and commitment to your goals.
